August 23: Dean DeLeo, guitarist for the Stone Temple Pilots is 52-years-old today.

 

 

 

DeLeo's guitar playing has received strong critical acclaim over the years. His tome has been described as "crunchy" and was a main trademark of STP. DeLeo - who is from Newark, New Jersey - incorporates many genres, including hard rock along with psychedelia, jangle pop, and other forms of melodic alternative guitar.


The Stone Temple Pilots debut album Core sold over 8 million copies. STP's second album, Purple, released in 1994, was ranked at #73 on Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All-time list.
