September 27: Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman, Turner Overdrive is 70-years-old today.

Randolph Charles "Randy" Bachman, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was the lead guitarist, songwriter and a founding member for both the 1960s–70s rock band The Guess Who, and the 1970s rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive. He has also recorded numerous solo albums.

In early 1970, the single "American Woman" hit #1 on the U.S. charts, a first for a band from Canada. Bachman left the band at the height of its popularity, shortly after the release of American Woman.

He has been quoted for leaving due to the other band members' lifestyle choices conflicting with his Mormon beliefs. He also was suffering health problems from the constant touring and needed to be under a doctor's care, something that was impossible to do on the road.

Bachman, Turner Overdrive hit the charts with "Takin' Care of Business," "Let It Ride," and and "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" (written by Randy).
