August 25: Mexican singer and actress, Thalia Sodi, is 42-years-old today.

Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda - known simply as Thalía - began her music career at the age of 9. She is known among her English speaking fans for her song "I Want You" from her crossover album in 2003 which went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Thalía's name is linked to soap operas which have been watched by over 2 billion people in 180 countries. She has received more than 2000 awards throughout her career for both singing and acting and has sold over 25 million albums worldwide.


Her best-selling album is Amor a la Mexicana, with 10 million copies sold worlwide. In 2009, Thalía signed with Sony Music and released her first live album, Primera fila. It has been certified diamond by AMPROFON for selling more than 500 000 million copies in Mexico.

Among her biggest hits are "Piel morena,” "Amor a la Mexicana,” "Entre el mar y una estrella,” "Tú y Yo,” "No me enseñaste,” "¿A quién le importa?,” "Cerca de ti,” "Amar sin ser amada" and "Equivocada.” In 2002, in a survey by Univision Communications, "Piel morena" whas chosen "as the best song in Spanish of all time in the United States.”
