Melissa Schuman is best known for her role in the all-girl teen band Dream. With Dream, she appeared in their two biggest hits, "He Loves U Not" and "This is Me." Schuman quit the band after their two hits to pursue her own solo career in singing and acting.

In 2002, she starred in Love Don't Cost a Thing, The Hollow and Silent Scream. She recorded a song with The Hollow Costar Nick Carter called "There For Me" in 2004. On November 15, 2010, Schuman's unreleased solo album "Stereotyped" was released to iTunes.

On January 28, 2008, Schuman reported that she would be forming a new music group with former Dream bandmate Ashley Poole, and would be auditioning for girls and even starring in a reality show to detail the new group's formation.

On February 2, 2008, Melissa reported on her forum that Diana Ortiz, also formerly of the girl group Dream, had joined indicating that the group was now complete. On July 27, 2008, Schuman announced on her website that the new group's name is "Lady Phoenix".

The girls were recording the debut album unsigned, although they were 'rumored' to have met with many major record labels and are signed with new management.

In 2012, Schuman confirmed that Lady Phoenix has since disbanded following Ashley Poole's departure from the group and the reality show was not picked up by any networks.
